Ruth Asawa
-
Imogen and Ruth were great friends and she often took photos of Ruth at one of their homes, capturing images both candidly and for the purpose of documenting Ruth's work. Occationally these photos were for an article or to promote a show, but as always, Imogen found the time to take other photographs that particularly interested her, both in the spirit of collaroration and also, experimentation.
-
Nothing escaped Imogen's eye - Ruth was a great subject for Imogen's camera, with the fluid transparency of Ruth's artwork giving shape and form to the image.
-
These are contact sheets from Imogen's negative rolls, taken with her Rolleiflex camera.
Imogen often used her 2 1/4 inch Rolleiflex camera, shown here to photograph Ruth. Occasionally she brought out her 4x5 Deardorff camera, which only takes one negative at a time, but offers a great amount of resolution on the 4 x 5 inch negative.
